Remember that scene at the end of that Facebook Movie (“The Social Network”) when Mark Zuckerberg’s character sits alone at a computer screen hitting the refresh button over and over again — stuck in a loop of anxiety and longing?
This is completely fascinating to me. I love the idea of a journalist taking a poll on what his readers want his next story to be about. So this got me thinking. What if romance writers did this, specifically what if I did this? Am I up for the challenge? It would be way cool to see what stories readers would want to hear, but just as equally terrifying. Has an author done this? Could a author commit to spending a better part of a year on a book that wasn’t their idea in the first place? What do you guys think?
